Art and culture in Rome

A visit between art and culture in the ancient Rome.

According to tradition, Rome was founded on 21st April 753 B.C. In fact, the city grew gradually, district by district. The first hill to be occupied may have been the Palatine, which was settled by a Latin colony around the 10th century B.C., right on the part overlooking the Tiber.

Here the river is divided by the Tiber Island, fixed point of transit not only for commerce between North and South, but also for the river commerce that developed from the sea to inland Lazio and central Italy.

The oldest archaeological remains found on the Palatine hill bear witness to the existence of a village of huts surrounded by an embankment: the characteristic Roman square form.

Not long afterwards, the progressive evolution of an exchange economy led to the creation of trading centres where goods in arrival converged with those leaving to be exported.

Subsequently, thanks to the conformation that nature gave the area, surrounding it with hills far from the sea, Rome became the ideal place to be protected from danger.

In this way, new Latin populaces from inland were persuaded to occupy other areas (Esquiline, Caelian, Quirinal and Capitoline), giving rise to new villages between the 10th and 7th centuries B.C.

Joined together in holy alliance, these villages founded Rome; and beginning with a monarchy, they marked the start of the age-old history of the ‘Eternal City’.

Rome is a city full of architectural treasures worth visiting, just like Palazzo Barberini, and of historical, unforgettable corners, as the Trevi Fountain or the renowned squares. It is a city that will never stop astonishing people and every year attracts thousands of tourists from all over the world. It offers a voyage through mystic places of worship, as the Saint Mary Major Basilica or the Holy Stairs, but at the same time proposes profane tours to discover the local cuisine, wellness and shopping. It is a multifaceted city, containing many parallel worlds waiting for you to be discovered.
